American Legion Oratorical Contest
The purpose of The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program - "A Constitutional Speech Contest" is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship.
Amount of Scholarship: $50 to $18,000
Number of Awards: 53 national scholarhsips
Education Level: grades 9 through 12
Eligibility: Eligible participants in contest shall be citizens of or lawful permanent residents of the United States.
This scholarhsip contest needs you to write and give a speech, so student with public speaking experience or who have taken a speechwriting class in school will be better equipped to compete.
The contest takes place in several rounds, starting at the local level. Winners at the state level receive scholarships from their state's Americal Legion headquarters and advance t othe national level.
