Therefore, be wary if you found extremely good deals in education. Deals that sound too good to be true usually are scamming tactics by diploma mills.

A school that has a website with an .edu extension is not necessarily affiliated with a legitimate education organization. Anyone, including diploma mills can purchase an .edu site easily, so don't be fooled with a school's website that has an .edu domain extension. You should get further information about the school before you sign up any of its degree program.

3. Limited contact information

Legitimate online schools would like to you contact them and ask them questions if you have any enquiry. They will leave their contact information in various forms such as address, emails, online chat, telephone and some include the MSN and Skype contact information to ease you when you need to contact them. Whereas, diploma mills' websites lack of these information, whenever you found a school doesn't provide a phone number and/or a physical address, warning alerts should be going off in your mind, choose other schools that provide students with a way to get help in person or over telephone whenever they need any help.

The online schools that have impressive looking websites that looks official do not mean these are legitimate online schools. 5. Fake accreditation site

Diploma mills know that accreditation information of a school is important and a must-check information when a person look for an online school. Therefore, most online schools run by diploma mills also claim "fully accredited". However, unless they are accredited by proper legitimate regional accreditation, the accreditation claims will mean little to the validity of your degree. So, when you check the accreditation information of your selected school, make sure you check the information of the accrediting agency that perform the accreditation, and be sure this agency is a proper regional association where its information can be found at CHEA.org, the website for council of higher education accreditation.
