Taylor University is a rather small, private institution located in the town of Upland, Indiana, and is affiliated with a Christian interdenominational organization. The school is home to over 2,000 undergraduate students and approximately 50 graduate and part-time professional students. The school offers broad majors in the areas of biological science, business, communications and the arts, computer and physical science, education, engineering and environmental design, health professions as well as the social sciences.

Admission to Taylor University is extremely competitive among the few students who apply; the applicants tend to come from a pool of very intelligent, very academically successful students. The admitted students had an average combined SAT score ranging from 1100 to 1200, and an average comprehensive ACT score ranging from 26 to 32. Additionally, more than 80% of those admitted were ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class that have an average high school GPA of about a 3.8.

Taylor University has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of 15:1, and most students agree that the small class sizes are one of the best facets of attending the school. Professors also get high marks from their students in terms of accessibility and willingness to help students out when they may need it.
